My work explores the effects of erosion and decay on surfaces. I’m fascinated by the surfaces created by nature upon manmade objects, metal, wood or plastics. I find decades of painted layers over an object to be particularly enthralling, but I am also captivated by the effects the environment has upon naked metals.
A further source of inspiration and continual interest to me are naturally formed layers laid down by the natural geological processes of the planet, such as sedimentary layers and volcanic surfaces.
I use these inspirations to create a developing series of forms and surface finishes that embody my ideas and inspirations and express the innate beauty I see in these natural processes. I seek minimalism of form in order to find balance with the complex surfaces I create.
